2010. A Year in Transition.
I haven’t spent time in this place during the past two months, as I was internalizing all the new changes taking place. But, as to be expected, the new year has brought me back, as I consciously try to bring closure to the year that’s just ended.
The year wasn’t what I expected, but it pushed me to deal with ambiguity and change in ways I’ve never experienced before; while it was a challenge at times, I’m sure it made me stronger. The past few months seem to have slipped away from me, as I got caught up with focusing on certain — less important at times — details than I would normally like). But, before I can take charge and move forward, I wanted to reflect…
Here are some highlights from 2010:
- Stayed in London (ie. didn’t move back to Canada post-MA, as initially planned).
- Relished in time-off post-MA, exploring a city I love, in ways that I didn’t have time for during school.
- Celebrated my sixth anniversary, with the love of my life.
- Obtained my Greek citizenship.
- Welcomed my new nephew, Leo.
- Visited Holland (for the second time), Scotland, Italy, Turkey, and a few new places in England.
- Contributed to two issues of UPPERCASE Magazine.
- Celebrated four very special weddings; and participated as a bridesmaid in one of them.
- Turned down several projects to be able to focus on things that mattered more to me.
- Continued my own business (The Institute of You) and developed it further than I had in school.
- Said goodbye to a city I love, knowing I’d return again.
- Moved back home to Toronto, with my partner, when work-life changes and personal events called for our attention.
- Put my personal business on hold, while focusing on other opportunities, when the resources and support I needed became temporarily unavailable.
- Started two new business partnerships (more to tell about those in the coming months!).
- Set-up a new home, with the person I love most, and have already welcomed many dear friends and family members (something we longed for in London).
Some hopes for 2011:
- Do more reading.
- Invest time in becoming a better cook.
- Use my hands to make things more (I’ve had a head start on this one with my newfound love of baking, but I’d like to get back to drawing and painting, too).
- Plan an epic summer trip.
- Make time for experiencing things near and far with my best friend/partner, on a regular basis.
- Work for myself, with others, doing great work.
Happy 2011! May your hopes all come true, with a fair share of happy surprises along the way.
